Notes

Shortly after I found this snake, I saw another snake on the shoulder of the road that was about to cross the highway. At first I thought it was another copperhead, but as I got closer I saw semi-circular markings on the side of its neck. I believe it was a canebrake rattler, but I was unable to spot it after going back to check it for species identification. I searched Beaufort and Jasper Counties all day, but there was virtually no activity until dusk. I believe these snakes were seeking higher ground in anticipation of the flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew.
